Netflix Deadly Mystery Hit Is a Perfect Replacement for This Forgotten Elijah Wood Series

If there's one genre that will always attract viewers no matter what, it's the mystery genre. Whether the show is set in the present day or a few centuries ago, whether there is a perfectly human explanation for everything or there is a certain magical influence, people love to solve puzzles and mysteries along with the characters.

Though Dead Boy Detectives has struggled to become as popular as some fans would like in order to secure a season 2 renewal, Netflix 's latest supernatural hit has already captured the hearts of many fans.

Some of them, though, may have found it oddly familiar, and we know exactly why.

Is Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency Worth Watching?

Co-produced by BBC 1 and Netflix, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency is another mystery show that just so happens to fit the Dead Boy Detectives vibe to a tee. Released in 2016, it checks all the same boxes as Dead Boy Detectives. It's funny, it's mind-bending, and there's a good chunk of the supernatural involved.

However, there is a bonus that will likely make the 2016 hit a little more enticing: the show stars Elijah Wood as Todd Brotzman, the sidekick to Samuel Barnett's title character, Dirk Gently. Similar to Dead Boy Detectives, the show primarily features this duo working on various cases, but also features an ensemble cast of charming characters.

Both Dead Boy Detectives and Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency are adapted from the printed sources. The former is a story based on DC Comics characters, while the latter is based on the novel series of the same name by Douglas Adams.

While Dead Boy Detectives has yet to be renewed, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency was given a second series, which aired a year later. The second series has become an even bigger success, achieving an excellent score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, Dead Boy Detectives isn't too far behind with 93%.
