If they manage to pull off a sequel after all this time, it’d be really nice, guys.

Summary:

  • 2016’s The Nice Guys is an outstanding detective comedy starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe.
  • The movie received overwhelmingly positive reviews but didn’t earn too much, and the sequel was canceled.
  • During the recent discussion, Ryan Gosling expressed his eagerness to do The Good Guys 2, and Emily Blunt claimed she’d do anything to star in it.

Few people in Hollywood have track records so diverse and unique as Ryan Gosling. It’s hard to think of a genre the actor hasn’t tackled yet, and whatever he does, he does it brilliantly. In 2016, Gosling joined forces with Russell Crowe to create the most iconic mismatched duo of private investigators, and the movie they made both revived the greatest cop bromances of all time and brought a fresh take to the table.

The Nice Guys Is an Underrated Hit

To some, it might seem like it’s impossible to come up with something new and properly entertaining in the terribly overpopulated field of dynamic crime-fighting duos, noir settings, and crime comedies overall. And yet, 2016’s The Nice Guys managed to surprise the audience and critics by adding their own spin to the classic.

Shane Black’s detective comedy raked up amazing reviews: the movie boasts a 91% Critic and a 79% Audience Scores on Rotten Tomatoes and a solid 7.4/10 on IMDb. Unfortunately, The Nice Guys hit the theaters at an inopportune moment and failed to hit the jackpot — but nonetheless, it has a cult following to this day, and fans have been itching for a sequel for just about eight years now.

The Nice Guys Sequel Is a Dream

Everyone loved The Nice Guys: the stars, the critics, the viewers… It’s enough to skimp through the top critics’ reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and you’ll get the picture.

“The sort of cheerfully hostile buddy bash that’s been a staple since the ‘80s, only this one is singularly clever about its own triviality, and it offers the scruffy pleasure of seeing two great actors dial down their gravitas with style,” wrote Variety’s Owen Gleiberman.

Surprisingly, during the recent discussion of The Nice Guys 2 over at Collider, Emily Blunt was the most excited person in the room, because she kept insisting that she was “so in” and will absolutely “turn up for a scene” because “that’s her dream.”

We might not have Ryan Gosling’s Kickstarter star power or connections at Warner Bros., but we’re saying — do it. The Nice Guys sequel is long overdue, and the first movie left the very obvious bridge to the next installment. This movie deserves to be built upon, and we’re very much itching to see more of Crowe and Gosling’s duo.
