Mick Taylor is coming back.

Horror films always instill an inexplicable sense of dread, and when they are based on real-life events, this effect is only intensified.

The Amityville Horror and The Exorcism of Emily Rose are the tip of the iceberg, the most famous cases that have formed the basis of the subgenre, but there are others, much less famous.

Wolf Creek Is One of the Classic Australian Horror Movies

When it comes to films influenced by Ozploitation – films made in Australia after the introduction of the R rating – Greg McLean's Wolf Creek immediately comes to mind. After its release, the movie was very popular with horror fans and even received a sequel.

Now, Australia's most brutal horror franchise is set to be revived.

Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting Are Developing a New Sequel

The third movie in the Wolf Creek franchise is scheduled to begin production in 2025. Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting have bought the rights to the film, having previously bought and distributed the main slashers of the 2020s – Terrifier 2 and Terrifier 3.

This time, Greg McLean will hand over the director's chair to Sean Lahiff, who worked as an editor on Wolf Creek 2. The role of serial killer Mick Taylor will be reprised by John Jarratt.

The Original Wolf Creek Was Loosely Based on the Story of a Real-Life Serial Killer

Wolf Creek is loosely based on a true story. Ivan Milat was a hunter and basically stalked all of his victims like prey. He killed tourists with one shot, using them as targets.

For many years, he was believed to be Australia's only serial killer. Milat's troubles with the police began at the age of seventeen, when he was mostly involved in petty robbery and fraud, but his violent tendencies began to grow.

Greg McLean's film changes the events, but tonally fits this dark story. The movie is gruesome and down to earth – there are no demons or ghosts, but there is a disgusting madman who has decided that human lives are in his hands.

Wolf Creek Received a Direct Sequel and a Spin-Off TV Series

In 2013, the sequel Wolf Creek 2 was released, which did not receive the most enthusiastic reviews – on Rotten Tomatoes, the film has 51% from critics and 39% from viewers.

However, three years later, a series with the same name as the original movie was released on the small screen. This time, fans were pleased – Wolf Creek received an impressive 82% on Rotten Tomatoes.
