Having your own traditions is a good thing that creates a vibe of having at least something under control. And these films help me regain a sense of stability each year.

Every year, the movie industry introduces us to so many new movies of every genre that it's physically impossible to see them all in theaters, let alone later on streaming platforms. Plus, sometimes you just don't feel like seeing anything new. And there are a lot of reasons for that.

For me, it can easily be things like a lack of marketing or just too much presence in the media. Or the poster choice feels wrong, or I hate the actors, or I just don't feel like watching a new movie for fear of being disappointed halfway through.

I get that this sounds confusing and I seem like an overthinker, but committing to a new movie is an important thing for me (funny how it doesn't work that way with TV shows). But rewatching the same 4 movies every season is kind of a need for me, that's why I've stuck with them for over a decade. Check out my list below.

Winter: Love Actually (2003)

Well, I guess this one doesn’t come as a surprise, as Love Actually is considered a quintessential holiday movie that has become synonymous with winter. It works the same way with me, but not only because it's set against the backdrop of Christmas in London.

Love Actually has everything you need: it explores love in so many parallel forms that there's no way you won't end up a little inspired to find your true love, too. The movie's intricate and intertwining storylines suggest that everything is connected, and the chain of events in your life may come from a place you never thought of.

Of course, the festive atmosphere set in the movie also contributes to the winter mood, especially the soundtracks. I have probably ten different versions of Love Is All Around in my playlist, and of course my favorite is Bill Nichy's character Billy Mack Christmas version.

The perfect casting decisions make this movie one of my all-time favorites as well, and there;s not a winter when I miss the rewatch of this movie.

Spring: Groundhog Day (1993)

My other all-time choice is this old gem from the director Harold Ramis. I really consider Groundhog Day an absolute must-watch during the spring because of its core premise, which is a complete renewal.

The movie stars Bill Murray as Phil, a rather jerky weather journalist who thinks that he is above it all and treats his colleagues with no respect. They travel to a little town to cover the annual emergence of the groundhog from its hole, and that’s when the surprising stuff starts happening to him.

In the movie, Phil is forced to relive the same day over and over again, practically mirroring the theme of renewal and transformation that is strongly associated with spring. Phil gradually reevaluates his life and relationships, and each replay of the day shows his journey toward self-improvement, making it a story of growth.

It wasn't until recently that I realized why the desire to rewatch Groundhog Day comes in the spring, but then it hit me that it's the best time to change whatever it is in yourself that makes you or the people around you miserable. “There's always hope” is the main idea of the movie for me.

Summer: Mamma Mia! ( 2008)

I don't think you need a long explanation for this choice, but I'll give you some of my thoughts anyway. Well, for those of you who don't know, Mamma Mia is a family story that revolves around Donna, the mother, played by Meryl Streep, and her daughter, Sophie, played by Amanda Sayfried. With the missing key point being the father figure…

The movie was shot in Greece, where the sun shines brightly and the scenery is so beautiful it's breathtaking, even on video. The movie is literally bursting with color, energy and, of course, music. ABBA's infectious songs provide the soundtrack for a fun, heartwarming story of love, family and self-discovery.

Summer is all about enjoying life, making memories and embracing adventure, and Mamma Mia captures that spirit perfectly.

Autumn: LOL (2008)

And last but not least, here is my fall choice, which may seem a little strange to you. It's actually a coincidence that I am rewatching LOL every autumn. The thing is, the first time I watched this French movie was in October 2009 with my best friends, and since then I decided that it will be the tradition that we will keep.

The movie is actually set at the beginning of a school year, so that probably unconsciously became one of the reasons to watch it again and again in the fall. LOL revolves around the titular character Lola and her friends and their typical high school problems: love, sex, betrayal, school struggles, friendships.

And again, the choice of soundtrack in the movie is exceptional, giving off this relaxed vibe of changing seasons from hot summer to cold winter.
