Krista Vernoff's departure as the showrunner of Grey's Anatomy may bring new blood and creative decisions to the show.

At least that is what Grey's Anatomy fans hope. Although the show has a huge dedicated fanbase ready to watch it for another 19 seasons, every single fan seems to agree that the last few seasons have been far inferior in quality to the first few iconic ones. But what should be done to bring back that epic Grey's Anatomy vibe?

Fans on Reddit have some very good advice for a new showrunner.

Make It Funny Again!

The first few seasons of Grey's Anatomy were dramatic but hilarious. The original interns easily got themselves into silly situations, like the time Cristina narrated a porn scene about naughty nurses for her patient who used porn for pain management.

Recently, however, the episodes have become overwhelmingly dramatic without the lightness of the comedic scenes. And fans feel that the comedic relief needs to return.

Prioritize Friendships

Friendships have always been an integral part of the show. The relationships between MAGIC (the original group of interns), Richard and Bailey, Mark and Derek, and others were monumental to the success of the show in its early days.

In recent seasons, however, characters have tended to jump into random romances with no time to stay single, develop meaningful friendships, or act out a slow burn.

Focus On Medicine

A major downside of too much romantic drama is that there has been a shift away from creative medical storylines that used to not only shock viewers but also emphasized the personal or professional growth of the protagonists. Patient stories were usually well woven into an episode arc and were compelling without being preachy, which seems to be a problem in recent seasons.

Bring Back A+ Acting

It could be the result of a younger cast, a new writing style, or less time given to each character, but fans feel that the quality of acting has dropped in recent seasons. And they either want to see some old, beloved characters back on screen or get a chance to fall in love with the new protagonists.

Revive The Good Music Era

Not a single fan would argue that the soundtrack for the earlier seasons was insanely good and largely created that special Grey's vibe. But then, for some reason, the show started using covers that many fans hated and what felt like cheesy royalty-free music. The budget cuts should not affect good soundtracks, fans think.
