There’s no coming back once you start obsessing over something.

Shows and movies about tough guys doing their best to succeed at whatever they do are great to watch. And when a bunch of well-written supporting characters are thrown into the mix, that's what turns a good show into a great one.

There's a good chance that many Landman fans didn't stumble upon the show by accident, but specifically tuned in to see what Taylor Sheridan had in store for them after he wrapped up Yellowstone. Landman became a success because the story of Tommy Norris' day-to-day life as a landman, trying to deal with all the shenanigans that come with the title, turned out to be quite compelling to watch.

So if you are not patient enough to wait for season 2, there are plenty of movies set in arid Texas, or with characters digging for oil or simply fighting for life. Here are 5 of the movies you can watch after Landman.

1. Beirut (2018)

The perfect movie for those who already miss Jon Hamm after Landman season 1 ended. Here Hamm plays the role of CIA negotiator and former US diplomat Mason Skiles.

The movie takes place in 1982 and Skiles has to go back to Beirut after he left the city ten years ago. He also left a friend behind, and now that it's time to bring him back, he has to find a way to negotiate this deal. The movie keeps you invested every minute, and Hamm's performance has something to do with that as well.

2. Local Hero (1983)

For the folks who know this old gem, it may seem strange that it ended up on this list, but still. This British dark comedy follows an American oil company employee, Mac MacIntyre, as he travels to the west coast of Scotland to buy the entire village just so his company can build an oil refinery there. Tough call!

“An outstanding film by writer-director Bill Forsyth who also did the acclaimed Gregory's Girl. It's a mix of outright laughs and sly, low key ones. Warm, people focused, and so carefully inserts its pro-environmental message you're hardly aware it's there. It never hurries but it never drags, it's well-shot and requires your rapt attention to pick up on humorous touches,” Redditor BODDAGIT said.

3. No Country for Old Men (2007)

Now here we finally have something that, like Landman, is set in West Texas. But in 1980. The story follows Josh Brolin as Llewelyn Moss, a Vietnam War veteran who finds a suitcase full of money at a crime scene after a drug deal goes wrong. And the fun starts right here: Moss is being followed by a cop, played by Tommy Lee Jones, and by a psychopathic killer, Anton Chigurh, played brilliantly by Javier Bardem.

The movie explores many fundamental questions and gives us different perspectives on the three main characters' roles in life. Truly an epic movie to check out, especially if you like seeing Bardem in a quirky role.

4. One False Move (1991)

This old gem was co-written by Landman's leading actor, Billy Bob Thornton, who also stars alongside the late Bill Paxton. And even though there's no story about oil, we think the connection to one of Thornton's best movies is enough for Landman fans to tune in.

The story revolves around Paxton's character, a police chief named Dale, who gets a tip about the dirty dealings of three ruthless criminals. One of them is Ray, played by Thornton, and he is ready to fight to the death. But things get even more interesting when a woman enters the picture.

5. Giant (1956)

Another classic epic drama finds its way into the list of movies that have the same vibe as Landman. But Giant doesn't just focus on oil, it shows the entire rise of a cattle rancher turned oil man. and it stars Rock Hudson as rancher Bick Benedict, Elizabeth Taylor as his wife Leslie, and James Dean in his final film as ranch hand Jett.

“I grew up in Texas and didn't see this until I was in my 40s. It's now one of my favorite movies. It all rings so true, and I can see the shades of history throughout it. A real tour de force. And the way they dealt with racism was more real than almost any movie of the time. I remain impressed,” Redditor Caffeine_Queen_77 said.
