Professor Trelawney is known as one of the comic reliefs of the Harry Potter series, with her being clumsy, her voice having a weird pitch, and her antics quite unexpected for her new students.
Yet you can't deny her Seer powers — and these moments prove that she's pretty good at predicting some of the future events.
Hermione was pretty suspicious of Professor Trelawney's predictions, but the thing is she didn't know how to properly decipher them. We've been told time and time again that oracles talk in riddles and whatever kind of future they see, they won't be able to tell you exactly what's gonna happen because it's not gonna be fun that way (we're looking at The Matrix here).
You realize that they were right in retrospect, as you're experiencing these events and finally find the right way to interpret their words. The same thing can be said about some of Professor Trelawney's prophecies. They're tricky, never straightforward, or if they seem straightforward, there's always something hidden behind them.
From the plot-building point of view, a character capable of seeing the future allows the viewer to try and guess what part of the prophecy was right. And that's fun!
