What’s there to improve though?

When it comes to crime or police dramas, there’s no doubt that Brits know how to create one. As the fans of the genre say all the time, there’s no way that any of the British series within the police premise will be rated less than a solid 8.

However, it seems that with this series the level of production just went a little higher. The cop drama we are talking about is called Blue Lights. The show premiered last year and since then it seems that the audience became obsessed with it.

What Is Blue Lights About?

The show focuses on the police force in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and is a perfect portrayal of how difficult it is to handle the job in the area. It's especially hard for rookies, the main characters of the series. There are three of them: Grace Ellis, Annie Conlon and Tommy Foster.

They join police forces by following their heart, but end up questioning if they made the right choice just a few weeks into the job. Alongside them there are older officers, who train and mentor them.

Blue Lights Nails One Thing Better Than All Police Procedurals

The differences between them and their approaches to work is what amazes fans the most. Especially, since the viewers see how the job is not glamorized in any way. For what it’s worth, some cops are shown exactly how they are in real life.

“Just wanted to comment on how true to life the policing aspects of the programme actually are. So refreshing and actually so engaging. The depiction of what the jobs like when you’re young in service and when you’re in “hostile” places is more or less bang on. Not depicting response officers as a bunch of blithering idiots really goes against the tired tropes as well which I love,” Redditor CliffyGiro said.

Season 1 was hailed as perfection in the world of police procedurals, but fans say it's something completely different from anything they've seen in the genre. Season 2, which premiered a week ago, was also great, but as some fans say, the writing turned out to be less sharp and powerful than it was a year ago.

However, there's a reason for that: the story is evolving and we don't need to focus so much on the same things, but rather delve into individual stories and the criminal life of Belfast, which is so different from what audiences are used to seeing on their screens in other shows.

Will Blue Lights Have a Season 3?

Recently, the show was greenlit for season 3, and fans believe there's still so much potential to explore in the future. And just as all the fans have been begging, the creators have finally given in and are ready to release season 3 with 12 episodes instead of 6. This will give the writers a chance to explore the stories in even more detail.
