It's starting to look like he just likes an argument…

Summary

  • Taylor Sheridan and Cole Hauser have major beef
  • This time around, lawyers are getting involved
  • There's still a chance that Kevin Costner will file a lawsuit against Taylor Sheridan

The beef between Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner has been well documented. While they both have differing views on exactly why Costner quit his role as John Dutton, the fact that the pair have had a pretty major falling out cannot be disputed.

But it now appears that Taylor Sheridan has even bigger beef with another Yellowstone star.

Cole Hauser and Taylor Sheridan in Punch-Up

With Sheridan in dispute with two of Yellowstone's major stars, it might be a good thing that season 5 will signal the end for the neo-Western drama.

While Hauser and Sheridan have fallen out in the past, never before has it come to the point where lawyers need to step in. That's not to say there haven't been occasions when legal boundaries have been crossed.

In 2022, the Santa Barbara-born actor told Men's Journal that he and Sheridan got in a fistfight on just the second occasion that they met. It's not the ideal way to start any kind of relationship. But it seems Hauser is no stranger to the occasional fight and, according to his own mantra, isn't one to hold a grudge over such matters.

He said, 'Sometimes I'm just tired of words, so let's beat the s—t out of each other. Maybe at the end of it you'll buy me a Guinness and I'll buy you a Bushmills, and we'll be done. It's kind of what guys do.'

What's With the Lawsuit?

If getting into a fight wasn't enough for Taylor Sheridan to start legal proceedings against his self-confessed aggressive star, what has prompted him to get the Suits involved?

It's coffee.

That's right. You see, both men own their own coffee brand. And Sheridan thinks the logo for Hauser's Free Rein coffee looks a bit too similar to his own Bosque Ranch brand of caffeine-fuelled beverage.

As reported by NBC News, Sheridan's allegation is that Free Rein is in breach of rules over 'trademark infringement, unfair competition and false advertising'. He alleges that the Free Rein logo is a deliberate attempt to 'mistake or to deceive as to the affiliation, connection, or association' of the brand.

Maybe it was inevitable it would come to this. It seems trouble has been brewing for some time between the pair.

Will Kevin Costner sue Taylor Sheridan?

While Sheridan is the plaintiff in the coffee saga, his lawyers may well have one eye looking over their shoulder.

Nothing has yet been confirmed in relation to Kevin Costner filing a lawsuit. But during his divorce proceedings last year, the Prince of Thieves actor indicated that he will 'probably' do so.

Costner claims that he was forced to make changes to the filming schedule of his Horizon film franchise to work on Yellowstone. The major fly in the ointment here is that, according to the actor, the scripts weren't finished in time and the Yellowstone filming couldn't go ahead as scheduled.

This mix-up, Costner alleges, has left him $10 million out of pocket. With no official allegation yet made, Taylor Sheridan is under no obligation to comment. But he has previously stated that both he and Paramount were prepared to be flexible to allow Costner to complete both projects.

Right now, both stories are very much in the 'watch this space' stage. But it looks like the end of Yellowstone won't necessarily mean an end to the drama.
