Buddie was sent to heal all Destiel shippers’ hearts.

Summary:

  • If there's one thing that Supernatural has been known for on the Internet throughout its run, it's Destiel shippers.
  • The show that followed the journey of two brothers, Sam and Dean, introduced Castiel in season 4, and ever since, viewers have been feeling some tension.
  • The same tension was felt by viewers of 911, who suspected that there might be something more between the show's leads, Buck and Eddie.

Now that the 911 writers have made Buckley's bisexuality canon, Supernatural fans celebrate the moment as their own, as they never got the same treatment.

To say that the way Supernatural has handled the relationship between Cas and Dean is very controversial would be an understatement. While some believe that the shippers' pressure on the team led to Castiel's character being ruined, others think the writers deliberately played with their feelings to ruin everything in the final scene between the two.

Either way, Destiel shippers, just like Destiel haters, didn't get what they hoped for from the show. In trying to please everyone, the writing team failed to please anyone. Many thought that 911's Buck and Eddie would fall victim to the same treatment, but they turned out to be very wrong.

Did Buck and Tommy Kiss In 911?

While Buck and Eddie are far from canon right now, with one in a committed relationship with a woman and the other just beginning to explore his preferences, Buck and Tommy's kiss shows that the fandom has finally been heard and the writers are ready to give the audience what they want.

One would think that the core audiences of The CW's fantasy horror show and Fox's original procedural wouldn't overlap too much, but the reaction of the Internet goes to show that those Supernatural fans who were previously obsessed with Dean and Cas are now very likely to be trapped in very similar circumstances with 911's Buck and Eddie.

And even those who haven't seen a single episode of 911 can acknowledge and respect the way that 5 seasons after Eddie's first appearance on the show, the fandom finally pressured the writers to cave. While the same can't be said for Supernatural, the attempt was made.

Today, in the wake of several movies and TV shows featuring LGBTQ+ characters, such as Prime's Red, White and Royal Blue, Netflix 's Heartstopper, and Showtime 's Fellow Travelers, there's not much need to dwell on the shows that try to play with viewers' emotions by sending mixed signals. 911 seems to have finally learned that lesson, too.

If you want to see the best-friend-to-lover story that can actually become canon, you can stream 911 from the beginning on Hulu or tune in to ABC every Thursday to catch the upcoming episodes.

Until then, you can always follow the lead of your fellow fandom members and block Jensen Ackles. It won't make your Destiel dreams come true, but it can at least improve morale!
