Luca Guadagnino's dramatic love story has become Chalamet's breakout work and paved way for him to become one of Hollywood's biggest stars of his generation.

Call Me By Your Name star Timothee Chalamet made sure that his performance in the movie will break hearts of everyone watching, and we're here for it.

While the entire movie is gradually becoming more and more heart-wrenching towards the end, its climax scene, where Oliver tells Elio that he is about to marry someone else, is definitely peak drama.

Attentive fans have spotted that Chalamet did in fact make his own tweaks to the script, subtle enough not to mess with it completely but fundamentally add layers to his character.

"In the script, Elio laughs when he asks Oliver whether he is getting married. In the movie, he seems quite serious. One constant theme of the film is the uncanny understanding Oliver and Elio have of each other. I think in the movie at least, we are meant to infer that, on some level, Elio knew," Redditor no_bear_so_low explained.

Chalamet's subtle change to the script made his performance even more compelling, with fans feeling that his character Elio realized that his joke might be true in the most terrifying way possible.

When it does turn out to be true, it easily becomes the most heartbreaking moment in the film — not only for fans, but for Elio himself, naturally. This is where Chalamet gives his best performance in the movie as tears keep falling down his face while he just stares at a fireplace after talking to Oliver.

Call Me By Your Name came out in 2017, based on the novel of the same title written by André Aciman in 2007.
