With just a week left till the premiere of the long-anticipated Avatar sequel, The Way of Water, director James Cameron appears to go all in on PR efforts.

Following a slew of bold statements about his movie and how it is superior to other popular films, Cameron has once again name-dropped Marvel Studios, claiming in a new interview to ComicBook.com that Marvel "is not even close" when it comes to VFX and use of motion capture technologies.

"Industrial Light & Magic [George Lucas' effects company used by Marvel] does great work, but when it comes to the kind of emotive facial stuff that we're doing…Thanos? Come on. Give me a break. You saw [Avatar: The Way of Water]. It's not even close," Cameron stated.

This is not the first time Cameron starts picking fights with Marvel. In an earlier interview with The New York Times, the Avatar director took a jab at both Marvel and DC, arguing that their superhero characters "all act like they're in college" and don't "really" have relationships.

However, Cameron's constant attempts to name-drop big popular projects appears to tire social media users.

"They ask these questions about Marvel because it gets engagements online when stuff like this is said, not rocket science," Twitter user JayTaylor009 said.

Many people noted that Cameron might want to pick up a new strategy to promote his movie instead of constantly mentioning Marvel and DC movies. Besides, his new jab at Marvel's Thanos and the way he was portrayed visually did not really resonate with the majority of critics.

"Seriously? Giving Thanos as an example for not so good emotive facial CGI? The CGI character whose slight smile of inner peace of destiny fullfilled made the ending of Infinity War super meaningful?" Twitter user TomislavNikolov argued.

Cameron's jabs at Marvel come as The Way of Water faces a tough challenge of grossing at least $2 billion just to break even. With a goal like that ahead, the director's efforts to boost engagement as much as possible are quite understandable.

Avatar: The Way of Water premieres in theaters on December 16.
