Canceled or Ending: 4 Netflix Shows Saying Goodbye in 2024
Maybe it's the best time to start watching these projects.
Years go by, but one thing doesn't change – Netflix often cancels shows that viewers like. Sometimes, the company's executives don't even let the creators finish the story.
This year, however, the picture is more positive – three of the four shows Netflix has canceled so far are ending right on schedule.
1. Sweet Tooth, 2021-2024
On June 6, the third and final season of Sweet Tooth was released – a cozy, colorful and slightly naive version of the post-apocalypse. And now this is the perfect option for binge-watching – the third season received 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Earth has been struck by a strain of an unknown virus. Along with the epidemic, children were subjected to mutations, being born half-human and half-animal. The charming deer-horned hybrid Gus was hidden from the dangers of the outside world by his father in the depths of a national park, but after the death of his father, the boy must discover the reality beyond the fenced space.
2. Big Mouth, 2017-2025
Netflix rarely renews its shows for various seasons, but the animated series Big Mouth was renewed for six seasons and then two more. This year, however, Netflix announced that the upcoming eighth season will be the show's last.
Big Mouth presents viewers with an absurd and surreal look at the scariest time of a person's life – puberty. The series is filled with black humor, sexual content, and pop culture references because that is the only way to talk about growing up – honestly, and without censorship.
3. The Umbrella Academy, 2019-2024
The Umbrella Academy is the perfect option for those tired of endless (and formulaic) superhero movies and TV shows. The Umbrella Academy is based on the comic book series of the same name created by Gerard Way, the lead singer of My Chemical Romance.
In 1989, 43 women from different parts of the world unexpectedly gave birth to children with unusual abilities. Nobel Prize winner and billionaire Reginald Hargreeves takes seven of the babies under his wing. He creates an organization called the Umbrella Academy, under the auspices of which his adopted children create justice and defend the world.
The final fourth season will be released on August 8th and will conclude the story of the Hargreeves offspring.
4. The Brothers Sun, 2024
2024 began with the series The Brothers Sun – an action comedy about the criminal life of the American-Asian diaspora and a family involved in bloody showdowns. Many viewers hoped that the series would become a worthy alternative for all fans of Warrior, which was canceled by HBO in 2023. But The Brothers Sun repeated the fate of its predecessor.
The show did not live up to Netflix's expectations – the ratings were too low to renew it for a second season. But if you liked Warrior or are just a fan of action shows with Asian aesthetics, then the single season of The Brothers Sun will brighten up a few evenings.
