Cillian Murphy's Oppenheimer Co-Stars Don't Hold Back on His Methods
Having spent weeks on the set of Oppenheimer with Murphy, his colleagues can't help but express their shock at the lead actor's working methods and ethics.
Even if somehow, there were still cinema lovers in the world who didn't know about Cillian Murphy before, it surely changed with the release of Christopher Nolan 's Oppenheimer where the actor undertook the role of the father of the atomic bomb. Now, we doubt there's anyone left out there who doesn't recognize Murphy's genius.
Having had a great career prior to Nolan's latest movie, too, Cillian Murphy was able to work with other prodigies of his and other generations, including Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, and many others. All of them were thoroughly surprised to learn just how hard-working and selfless Cillian was on the set.
"I have never witnessed a greater sacrifice by a lead actor in my career. He knew it was going to be a behemoth ask when Chris called him. But I think he also had the humility that is required to survive playing a role like this," Downey Jr. admitted to People.
One of the cases that especially struck the Iron Man actor happened at the start of the cast's weekend when everyone planned to go relax for a while — except for Murphy.
"We'd be like, 'Hey, we got a three-day weekend. Maybe we'll go antiquing in Santa Fe. What are you going to do?' [And Cillian said,] 'Oh, I have to learn 30,000 words of Dutch. Have a nice time,'" added the actor in awe.
Murphy's work ethic and serious attitude to his craft earned him immense respect from his colleagues. Florence Pugh claims that she'd been watching the actor's career for a long time, and getting a chance to work with him was one of her biggest dreams. The actress thinks that only a madman would've refused such an offer.
"[Working with Cillian] was truly one of the best experiences that I've had. Working with him was hugely impressive. Every single day he shows up knowing every single possible way, intonation, inflection of how to bring this character to life. That was hugely impressive to me. There's a reason why he is one of the greats," shared Pugh.
Other co-stars of the Oppenheimer lead actor tend to only add to the praise, but their compliments of Cillian Murphy's work ethic and methods could be perfectly summed up by Emily Blunt's description: "monumental." As always, Murphy gave his all to Oppenheimer, and everyone around him appreciated his attitude greatly.
