The wildest Pixar theory seems to make sense after all — especially about this particular detail.

Summary:

  • Pixar fans have been sharing numerous theories about the company’s shared universe for all its franchises, but one particular theory has drawn a lot of attention thanks to a mind-blowing observation.
  • The theory’s author Jon Negroni suggests that one of Inside Out’s most memorable characters originally comes from Monsters Inc, another famous franchise by Pixar.
  • The observation thus makes total sense given the character’s main features and personal mission.

Pixar fans who have already been there for a while are aware of the company’s love for Easter eggs and small and sometimes even hardly noticeable plot details that are in fact direct references to Pixar’s other movies. The tradition entailed a great variety of fans’ theories and one of them is getting trendy thanks to some astonishing revelations.

The theory developed by Jon Negroni more than 10 years ago suggests that all the stories that Pixar has ever created — be that Up, Monsters, Inc., Ratatouille or Inside Out — are actually happening within the same universe.

Negroni’s surmise has received yet another confirmation when Pixar released a brand new teaser trailer for Inside Out 2 that featured one specific element coming from the studio’s 2022’s film Turning Red.

Is Bing Bong a Monster from Monsters Inc.?

But Inside Out seems to be much more profound in terms of such intersections. Negroni’s other bombshell guess brings the viewers back to the first film when the main character Riley meets her imaginary friend Bing Bong.

The latter isn’t just a trivial piece of imagination — he is a peculiar mix of a cat, an elephant and a dolphin. When Riley gets to see him with her own eyes, he’s made of cotton candy and thus can cry only with cotton candy.

Though it may seem as just something totally new created by Pixar, there’s a big chance that it’s not new, but rather one more reference to yet Pixar’s other famous franchise. According to Negroni, Bing Bong is basically a monster who Riley met long before their encounter in Inside Out, more precisely when she was three and Bing Bong was living under her bed.

Considering all this, Negroni’s “investigation” raises a thought that originally Bing Bong does come from Monsters Inc — the franchise where the main characters (also monsters) also have some animal characteristics and strive for making children laugh rather than be afraid of them (it seems like Bing Bong makes dolphin sounds to divert Riley).

And as a plus, Riley’s peculiar friend could be easily transported to Monsters Inc’s films and even make a perfect it there — and we may even meet him again in some place like Monstropolis if the viral theory goes further in its predictions.
