The Jeremy Renner-led Christmas series premiered last year without much enthusiasm from critics or viewers, but Disney may be very pleased with how it performed on their streaming service.
6-part miniseries followed the legendary marksman battling foes in the snowy Manhattan, with Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) as his teenage sidekick. Although some Marvel fans praised the series for its down-to-earth tone, 'Hawkeye' failed to become the MCU's best series by a long shot, taking a place somewhere in the middle of Disney+ / Marvel TV lineup. Renner's character is certainly a highlight of the entire franchise, and his unique charisma fits the project perfectly, so the possibility of getting another solo Clint Barton project is always welcome. And it looks like Avenger's fans may be getting just such a project.
Disney has just switched the nomination category for 'Hawkeye' from 'Limited Series' to 'Comedy Series' on the official Emmy 'For Your Consideration' page. And while some fans may be a little confused that Renner's series is a comedy (it has its moments, but it still has a long way to go compared to 'Barry' or 'Hacks'), the biggest news is that 'Hawkeye' is no longer considered a miniseries. This could mean that Disney+ is willing to extend the show for another holiday-themed season.
However, despite the great news, fans are still not sure they want another series centered around Renner's character, wanting Kate Bishop to get her own project instead.
