If you, too, have been waiting for this one since 2014, we have some bad news.

Summary:

  • Since Nova’s first MCU appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy, his potential joining the fray has been much speculated about.
  • Six years ago, Kevin Feige admitted that Nova had “immediate potential,” but the character still hasn’t got his own movie or show.
  • According to Marvel’s Head of Streaming, the Nova project is in “very early development” and they can’t be sure it will be completed.

Some movies and TV shows get done in just a couple of years and turn out amazing. Others get stuck in pre-production or even concept for an entire decade and still have nothing to show for it. This MCU project has been in the talks since as far back as 2014, but the only result by far is a properly disappointing update that brings next to no hope that we’ll one day finally see it.

Nova Is Already 10 Years Late to Our Screens

We first saw Nova and his Nova Corps back in 2014 in Guardians of the Galaxy, and ever since then, there have been talks about his MCU future. Four years later, Kevin Feige addressed the Nova issue and claimed that this superhero had “immediate potential,” meaning he was in the top list of characters who could join the MCU soon.

Today, it’s been a decade since we witnessed Nova in his full glory for the first time and six years since Feige’s promising comment. Nova is still not here, and there hasn't been any news on his standalone project’s development, either. The only update we recently received revealed that might just be the case for the foreseeable future, which is not nova in the slightest.

Marvel Exec Says, Nova’s in Early Development

The one and only real news we’ve got about the standalone Nova project in years is the recent comment from Marvel's Head of Streaming, Brad Winderbaum. The exec revealed that Nova is nowhere near being in active production and, though there is some work being done on the project, it might not even see the light of day.

“We are in really early development on Nova. <...> We're developing more than we actually will produce. There are plans to develop Nova. <...> There's always things. You gotta conjure these things to make them happen but I would love to see a Nova show, one day,” Winderbaum told ComicBook.

Basically, what this means is that if you’ve been waiting for a Nova project since 2014 or even 2018, you still have quite some years to go — and even then, the project might not make it. But hey, at least we know they haven’t completely forgotten about Nova, right?..
