And it also has a truly star-studded cast.

Summary:

  • Greta Gerwig got a huge moment of fame back in 2023 with her billion hit Barbie, but her recent filmography has some more highly acclaimed movies, one of which will soon be available on Hulu.
  • The 2019’s film based on the 1868 novel follows four sisters as they try to navigate through life dealing with all kinds of difficulties and first amorousnesses.
  • The movie with the star-packed cast eventually turned into commercial and critical success, ending up with an impressive score of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Greta Gerwig may have become one of Hollywood’s top directors ever since her billion hit Barbie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling was released in cinemas last year — but she proved her directorial brilliance long before the Matel’s doll and her story landed in Gerwig’s filmography.

Now that Barbie has officially finished its run being a box office giant and a critically acclaimed masterpiece, it may be the best time to rewatch Greta Gerwig’s other, not less significant movies — and one of them will be landing on Hulu just in several days.

Back in 2019, Greta Gerwig directed Little Women, a period drama film based on Louisa May Alcott’s 1868 novel of the same name. The plot follows a family with four daughters who, alongside their mother, are trying to deal with the difficulties that they face while growing up, whether it’s a certain way of life that they have to adjust to or simply their first love.

The movie with the cast full of very familiar names in Hollywood — like Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Laura Dern, Timothée Chalamet, Meryl Streep, Chris Copper and many others — became a huge phenomenon at the awards season back at the time, as well as in the box office.

With the initial budget of only $40 million, Little Women managed to gross more than $200 million worldwide while also receiving rave reviews from the critics — the latter ones eventually awarded the film with a solid 95% on Rotten Tomatoes praising Gerwig’s direction and script as well as the cast’s performance.

Finishing its triumphant path in the theaters, Little Women got numerous nominations for the most prestigious awards and eventually took home one Oscar for Best Costume Design.

Little Women will be available for streaming on Hulu starting from April 22.
