'The Mandalorian' villain ended up in jail in the season 2 finale, but it seems that the Imperial officer has no intention of spending the rest of his life in a prison cell.

Giancarlo Esposito has long been considered one of the most talented character actors working today, and his memorable villainous turns in 'Breaking Bad ' and 'The Boys ' have become a model for how bad guys should behave on television. So, it's no surprise that 'Star Wars ' fans were enamored with the actor's performance in the Pedro Pascal-led series, and Moff Gideon quickly became a beloved, though divisive, character. After losing his battle against Din Djarin, Gideon was arrested and sent to the New Republic for trial, leaving the character's future very uncertain before the upcoming third season of the Disney+ series.

Speaking to Entertainment Online, Esposito detailed the future of his character, assuring fans that the fearsome Moff will surely find a way to free himself so he can continue hunting down Mondo and Grogu.

"Yes, it's assumed he is behind bars. I think we could have an opportunity to see him escape those chains that bind him. We want to see a guy who is a mastermind who has an idea for the future that no one else has. And so, we want to know what that is and we want to know if that's good or bad," Esposito said.

So, a juicy jailbreak story is certainly in development at Disney +, and the opportunity to see Esposito reveal even more of his controversial character is sure to appeal to many 'Star Wars' fans. But not everyone on Reddit, it seems, is ready to get back to Esposito's Big Baddie just yet.

I really don't want it to be in Mando, at least not in S3. It would make the S2 finale feel so pointless if he got sprung that fast. There can only be so many narrow escapes before it gets old. - /OctanesLeg.

'The Mandalorian ' season 3 is slated to premiere sometime in February 2023.
