Over the years Grey's Anatomy fans have seen iconic power couples, awkward hookups, tragic stories, and confusing love triangles.

However, it seems that the most unforgettable romances for fans were the worst pairings on the show.

Callie and Penny

In all fairness to Penny, it was very unlikely that fans were going to like anything involving her character, after all, she was the one blamed for Derek's death.

Callie and Arizona were the first lesbian relationship on the show and survived so much together as an absolute power couple, a firm fan favorite. When Penny and Callie got together, not only did it feel like Callie had been downgraded, but once she found out about Penny's involvement in Derek's death, fans couldn't believe that she chose to stay with her. The pair also didn't share the same chemistry Callie and Arizona had previously, which left fans disinterested in the relationship.

Owen and Cristina

Firstly, Owen wanted children and Cristina was dead set against having them, and then Owen tried to guilt trip her into changing her mind. Cristina was one of the most beloved characters to ever walk the halls of Seattle Grace/ Grey Sloan, whilst fans found Owen to be annoying and a dislikable character. Their relationship started sweet but just ended with a whole lot of toxic moments and fights between the pair, and Owen cheating on Cristina.

Maggie and Jackson

If the lack of chemistry wasn't enough to break up this pairing, then the fact that they ended up being step-siblings should have been the end of it. As a couple, the two genuinely seemed to dislike each other, and this annoyed fans even more.

Derek and Addison

The dislike for this couple may be a biased opinion from fans, who wanted Derek and Addison to end so that Derek and Meredith could be together as the iconic "MerDer." However, their relationship was bad from the start, with both cheating on each other whilst still in a marriage that was falling apart.

Alex and Rebecca

Rebecca was a patient brought in after a ferry accident. She woke up with no recollection of her life and was unable to remember her name, so she was called Ava. She and Alex developed a relationship whilst she was in his care, and she returned to the hospital to see Alex a short while after being identified and discharged to her husband Jeff.

She and Alex had sex, and she vanished, she came back later saying she was pregnant, but tests revealed she was not. She ended up in a state, Alex took her home to take care of her, and she ended up harming herself. Although the "relationship" was short-lived, it was traumatic for fans and poor Alex.
