Meredith isn't always the victim on Grey's Anatomy, because many of the misfortunes she has suffered were caused by her own bad decisions.

She is often oversentimental and impulsive, letting her emotions get in the way of reason, even in matters of life and death. While she has been unlucky on certain occasions such as during her miscarriage, many of her worst moments on the show could have been avoided if only she made better decisions.

Here's just a few examples of Meredith's questionable decision-making:

Grabbing The Bomb With Bare Hands

The patient that had a bomb in his abdomen caused one of the tensest moments in Grey's Anatomy. In the heat of the moment, after the scared intern refused to hold the bomb any longer, Meredith grabbed it and refused to let go. Doctors are called to save lives, but her act was suicidal because she and all the other doctors in the room could have died if the homemade bomb had exploded. The patient was saved, but the bomb still killed Dylan, and many fans agree it wasn't worth it in the end.

Being Derek's "Other Woman"

Derek and Meredith fell in love at first sight, but they didn't make the perfect couple. When Meredith discovered that Derek was married, she chose to break up with him at first but then turned around and decided to become the other woman. She stooped low enough to beg Derek to "choose her" over his wife which was wrong on all levels.

She was supposed to hold Derek responsible for being unfaithful to his wife and being sexist. Instead, she created a love triangle that later hurt all of them. As a woman, she should have had more compassion for Addison and let her sort out her marriage with Derek.

Refusing To Slow Down While She Was Pregnant

After having a miscarriage and being diagnosed with a hostile uterus, Meredith's pregnancy was anything short of a miracle. Derek understood the risks and begged her to be careful and slow down, especially as she approached her due date. She tried to run up the stairs during the superstorm while heavily pregnant which caused her to slip and rapture her spleen and nearly killed her baby. She never took precautions, despite being a doctor and understanding the risks she was putting her baby at when she worked so hard in her condition.

Unilaterally Deciding To Turn Off Derek's Life Support

Derek's death was hard for everyone to handle, but Meredith handled it selfishly as if Derek didn't have any family and friends who also cared about him. After he was confirmed to be brain-dead, Meredith simply switched off the machine without consulting Amelia. As Derek's sister, Amelia also deserved a chance to say goodbye.

Addison was another person who cared deeply about Derek and who probably would have been glad for the chance to see him before he died. After pulling the plug, Meredith left for San Diego without giving any explanation to Amelia, which only added to her pain.

Offering To Take The Bullet For Derek

Gary Clark was a disturbed person willing to kill anyone that stood between him and Derek. Meredith knew she would die because he had already shot Derek in the chest and killed other innocent people. As a mother-to-be, Meredith should have known better than to confront him because she was responsible for more than just her life.

Gary didn't shoot her, but the trauma caused her to miscarry, which was one of the saddest moments of her life. She had a choice to stay out of the OR and let Christina handle the situation rather than risk herself and the baby. Derek later accused her of killing their baby, and he was partly right.
