Novels and movies about a boy wizard and his friends is a series about people first, and magic second. It was the characters that made Harry Potter such a great project – and one of the highest grossing of all time. Hundreds of characters with different personalities and abilities have come to life in this unique, magical world.

The Harry Potter film saga was also rich in twins – we saw George and Fred Weasley, the Carrow sisters, and Padma and Parvati Patil.

For a long time, the viewers believed the Patil sisters to be real twins, but it was just a brilliant casting – the girls who played them were not even near cousins. When Padma and Parvati first appeared in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, they went to the Yule Ball with Harry and Ron.

Parvati was played by Sitara Shah, an amateur actress who was 13 years old at the time – and it was her first and only film role. In subsequent films, Sitara was replaced by Shefali Chowdhury, who starred in a few low-budget projects after Harry Potter, but also decided not to pursue acting career.

Padma Patil was played by the same actress in all installments – Afshan Azad. Though the role was the first and last for her and her on-screen sisters, Afshan has continued to work in the media – she is now one of the highest-paid Bengali models.

But Afshan's road to success is worthy of its own movie – and a dramatic one at that, as the former actress faced persecution and violence from her own family. The fact is that Afshan grew up in a Muslim family, but fell in love with Nabil, who professes Hinduism.

In May 2010, Afshan's older brother attacked her. That day, the 22-year-old actress was on the phone with Nabil when her 28-year-old brother suddenly burst into the room and punched her several times. The brother was stopped by her mother – the physical violence stopped, but the moral one did not.

Afshan's father said he was going to send her to Bangladesh and force her to marry the man he thought was right for her. After the incident, the actress's brother was sentenced to 6 months in prison.

In 2018, Afshan married Nabil – the wedding was held on a grand scale, and the ceremony was attended by Afshan's former colleagues from the set of Harry Potter, Bonnie Wright and Katie Leung. And while it's a shame that the actress has ended her career, fans of the franchise are just glad that she's finally happy.
