Following the highly-praised reception of 'The Mandalorian', 'The Book of Boba Fett', and 'Obi-Wan Kenobi', comes 'Andor'; the latest series to be released in the Star Wars live-action franchise.

The show will be set as a prequel to the well-loved film Rogue One (2016) as it resurrects many of the familiar faces and characters that we recognize from the film and Star Wars universe.

What is Andor episode runtime?

According to announcements from the showrunners, Andor season 1 will include 12 episodes. Each Andor episode length has yet to be officially announced. However, we predict that like The Mandalorian, episodes will vary in length between 35 and 45 minutes each, potentially with slightly longer first and last episodes of the season.

Diego Luna, who is reprising his role as Rogue One character Cassian Andor, has revealed that upon the series release, the first three episodes will be available straight away that will consist of "almost two hours" of back-to-back viewing. Subsequently, the remaining episodes of the season will be released on a weekly basis.

What is Andor actually about?

Andor will be set five years prior to the story of Rogue One. Its plot will focus on the early formation of the Rebellion against the Galactic Empire. Specifically, the show will serve as the origin story of Cassian's character; as well as some of the other characters featured in the film. The series will depict the personal stories of each character, and how they ultimately come together to rebel against the Empire.

Andor has already been renewed to return ahead of its official release. Limited to an additional 12-episode second season. This final season will supposedly continue the events of this first installment of the show and will bridge the gap between the story told now and the events of the initial film.

Who will be appearing in Andor?

Aside from Deigo Luna, Genevieve O'Reilly is also said to reprise her role as Mon Mothma; leader of the Rebel Alliance. Forest Whitaker will also appear again as his Rogue One character, Saw Gerrera. Although it is unlikely we will see returning characters played by Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Donnie Yen, and Alan Tudyk, among others.

We will, however, be introduced to a number of new characters as part of the continuing Star Wars story. Stellan Skarsgård (Thor), Adria Arjona (Good Omens ), Kyle Soller, and Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter ) are all listed to play major roles in the series. Only limited details about their presence in this season have been revealed so far. We'll have to wait until the release date to find out more for ourselves.

As well as some of the actors returning to the franchise, Tony Gilroy has returned as writer and executive producer of the show. Gilroy was a co-writer for the film and has stated he has relished the opportunity to tell more of Rogue One's story.

Andor will be available exclusively on Disney+ and is due to premiere on September 21 2022 internationally.
