The small detail has all of George Martin’s attention in the books, but so far never made it to either of the shows.

After a disappointing second season that left the audiences even more concerned about George Martin ’s legacy on the screen, House of the Dragon better find a way to stick closely to its source material, and its showrunner might have just hinted at such an outcome after all.

The series’ next instalment isn’t arriving to the screens until the summer of 2026, but it’s already in the full production mode as it was earlier revealed that House of the Dragon’s season 3 would start filming in the first half of this year.

Now, when the show might finally be getting closer to the epic fights everyone has been waiting for, House of the Dragon’s showrunner Ryan Condal reveals there’s something else new coming in, and fans already have their ideas.

Speaking about the upcoming season for the show on The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of podcast, Condal revealed that House of the Dragon’s season 3 will bring lots of surprises for its viewers, including a long-forgotten detail that George Martin’s devoted fans might remember from the books where it kind of plays an important role.

The showrunner also added that the new feature would be introduced on the screen for the first time, so there’s no way you could’ve seen it in Game of Thrones.

“It’s a smaller detail, it’s not a big thing, but I just thought it was cool. It’s one of those things where you just have to go read all the little snippets that are in the books and you try to put the thing together, take all the information you have and then connect dots as best you can and then fill in the rest. So excited to see that come along, it’s a fun one”, Condal stated.

Condal Didn’t Say Anything Specific About the Detail, but Fans Might Already Know What It Is

Despite the showrunner’s attempts to not give any spoiler-ish details away, some fans were quick to decipher his words and coincide in their feeling that Condal meant a Valyrian glass candle after all.

In George Martin’s books, glass candles are a magical artefact that holds the Valyrians’ power, allowing them to develop telepathic abilities and see the events happening far away in another part of the country, also making it easier for them to establish a communication with other magicians.

Additionally, glass candles are made only in the colours black and green, which is why it makes total sense for the feature to appear in House of the Dragon’s next season that will show the start of the war between, well, the Blacks and the Greens.

Such a thought ultimately found support from the show’s fans on Reddit, with a user JoesShittyOs stating that “I’m gonna go with a glass candle”.

“Since Oldtown will seemingly be featured more in season 3 I'm thinking about something from there, maybe a glass candle?”, a Redditor Nigma_ also chimed in.

House of the Dragon will unravel the mystery when its third season arrives sometime in 2026.
