Is this really how the story of one of the fans' favorite characters will end? John Turturro is here to reassure everyone.

The events surrounding Irving reach a climax in Episode 9 – Burt suddenly shows up at his house and insists on leaving immediately. After reading Irving's notes about Lumon, Burt decides to take action.

In Episode 9, Irving Leaves the Town of Kier

He sends Irving and his dog Radar to an unknown location outside of Kier. Although the atmosphere of the meeting is filled with ominous hints, Burt eventually takes Irving to the train station and asks him to leave town.

This move can be interpreted as an attempt to protect Irving from a possible threat from Mr. Drummond or other Lumon employees.

But is this really how Irving's arc ends?

John Turturro Confirms Irving's Story Is Not Over Yet

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, John Turturro, who plays Irving, discussed his character's development and essentially confirmed that Irv will come back. When asked if the ninth episode was a final farewell to his character, the actor replied:

“No. And I don’t think it is. If someone wanted the story to be complete? It could be! But I think there’s so much more here.”

Turturro also said he hopes certain parts of Irving's backstory will make it to the screen – the actor received his character's bio even before filming. And yes, he knows why Irv draws those creepy pictures of the elevator to the testing floor.

Irving Is Connected to Too Many Important Secrets to Just Leave the Show

Such an ending to Irving's story in Season 2 was a surprise to most viewers – he is one of the most mysterious characters in the series, and there are many secrets surrounding him that have yet to be revealed.

Irving is somehow connected to the testing floor and the experiments that are being done on Gemma – that's why he's drawing gloomy pictures of the elevator. And who is the man Irv was talking to in the phone booth?

Also, the story between Burt and Irv is clearly not over yet – Burt has a much darker and longer history with Lumon than we know, and only through Irving will we be able to learn his secrets.

Apparently, we won't get answers to all these questions until the third season – let's hope we don't have to wait three years like we did for the second season.
