Thor is one of the few remaining original Avengers. But will he last much longer?

With four solo films to his credit, Chris Hemsworth 's Thor is one of the most long-standing Marvel characters, who has been there for four cinematic phases. But every journey must come to an end, and it looks like the Australian actor is hinting that his character is about to retire.

"I feel like we'd probably have to close the book if I ever did it again, you know what I mean? I feel like it probably warrants that. I feel like it'd probably be the finale, but that's not based on anything anyone's told me or any sort of plans. You have this birth of a hero, the journey of a hero, then the death of a hero, and I don't know—am I at that stage? Who knows?" Hemsworth told Vanity Fair.

In Thor: Love and Thunder, the post-credits title said that the God of Thunder would be returning - something that came as a surprise to both Hemsworth and the film's director, Taika Waititi. The actor insists he is being kept in the dark about plans for his character's future, but if anything, his words from the interview sound like a hint.

Although Thor has had more solo films than any other Avenger, fans have been a little disappointed with how his story has been told in the MCU.

"They probably should've given him a solid ending in Endgame like Cap and Iron Man. Thor 4 was honestly one of the worst MCU films. I don't know why they set him up with the Guardians to only abandon that in the first 30 minutes of L&T," Twitter user astralvex said.

A lot of people seem to be tired of following his journey, especially as it is largely about Thor trying to come to terms with the many tragedies in his life.

"Honestly I would be fine if Thor's Story ends soon I am kinda sick of his character arc now just being "He feels sad everyone he loves is dying but he is trying to move forward," Twitter user rickniks3 noted.

There has been no official word on whether there will be a fifth Thor movie (apart from the hint at the end of the fourth one).

Love and Thunder premiered in cinemas in July and was released on Disney Plus on September 8.
