James Bond Producers Say There’s Only One Way for Amazon to Save the Franchise From Falling Apart
The franchise’s future is in a big danger now that it’s taken away from Barbara Broccoli.
Things look even vaguer now for the future of Bondiana after a major twist in the franchise’s producing team.
It was revealed several weeks ago that the movie series’ longtime producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli had made a decision to step down, yielding to Amazon MGM’s desire to take over the creative control over the franchise’s next films.
Now that Bondiana has passed into the hands of new owners with quite questionable intentions, James Bond ’s future at MGM might not be so bright after all. There’s still, however, an option that will likely save the franchise from turning into another MCU, and Amazon’s producers might be already up to something in that regard.
Bondiana Producer Believes Christopher Nolan Can Resurrect the Franchise
Seems like it might all be coming back to Nolan as the director is currently the one Bondiana’s producers have all their hopes for.
As insiders told TheWrap recently, some of those connected to the franchise are doing their best to convince their Amazon colleagues about a necessity to bring Nolan on board for helming the next James Bond movie.
According to one of the franchise’s producers, “if Amazon wants to preserve the legacy, they should do everything possible to get Chris Nolan and wait for him as long as needed”.
In fact, it might not be only Nolan in particular as Bondiana’s team sees any prominent and acclaimed filmmaker as a potential solution. However, Oppenheimer ’s director is so far the top choice that will most likely return that phone call.
Christopher Nolan Has Wanted to Make a James Bond Movie for a Long Time
The director has never shied away from confessing about his ambitious plan to direct a James Bond film at some point, though he ultimately quit the idea for a reason that won’t be a problem now.
Several years ago Nolan was in serious talks with Barbara Broccoli about helming another movie for the franchise, but it soon went down into a major disagreement when the latter refused to give Nolan full artistic freedom he needed for working on the future film.
Things are likely to be different now that Amazon MGM owns intellectual property rights, so there might be no real obstacle for both parties’ dream project.
Nolan himself repeatedly stated that James Bond movies had a huge influence on his own filmography and some might have even found it “embarrassingly apparent”, as he called it during the Happy Sad Confused podcast back in 2023.
“And so there’s no attempt to shy away from that. I love the films. You know, it would be an amazing privilege to do one. You wouldn’t want to take on a film not fully committed to what you bring to the table creatively. So as a writer, casting, everything, it’s a full package’, he added.
