The best choice for your next movie night.

Ever since the first installment of Dune was released, Denis Villeneuve's name has been forever associated with the franchise. Though the first film was a bit of a disappointment for some, the second managed to pick up the pace and impress even the most loyal fans of the novels.

However, Villeneuve has been in the entertainment industry for so long that Dune is just one in a long list of accomplishments. Fortunately, Netflix is about to remind everyone of his highest-rated masterpiece of a movie to date.

Is Arrival (2016) Good?

Led by Amy Adams, Arrival follows the journey of the Linguistics Professor Louise Banks, who leads an elite team of investigators when giant spaceships land in 12 locations around the world. With nations on the brink of global war, Banks and her crew must race against time to find a way to communicate with the alien visitors.

While the movie may seem like another story about intergalactic wars and alien infiltration, Arrival goes deeper into the emotional side of things. Thanks to the outstanding performance of Amy Adams, Professor Louise Banks is a character that viewers will immediately care about no matter what happens on screen.

Another very well thought out aspect of the movie is the linguistic basis. With the need to incorporate the alien language, the production team made sure to consult the linguistics team at McGill University, as well as some phonetics specialists. This resulted in a perfect portrayal of the processes of figuring out an alien communication method.
