Even Zack Snyder isn’t that keen on continuing his currently failing new franchise, but Netflix is hellbent on keeping up the *whatever* work.

We’ll be the first to admit that we were pretty hyped for Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon after we saw the first glimpse at it in the form of a teaser trailer. The concept of “violent Star Wars ” immediately had us sold, but that was a mistake: Rebel Moon didn’t turn out to be that great. Even the director himself, apparently, wants to take a step back from his fledgling franchise… But he isn’t exactly allowed to.

Netflix Wants Snyder to Print More Rebel Moons

Zack Snyder might just be one of the most divisive movie directors of our time, with people either idolizing or resenting his work. But among the most controversial franchises of his, one stands out as universally accepted: the Army of the Dead series. We haven’t heard anyone hating on it, and many people genuinely love it.

Snyder himself is eager to develop more Army of the Dead titles, but Netflix really doesn’t think so: the streaming company wants more Rebel Moons. Like, right now.

“Yeah, I do [want to keep up the Army films], too. I keep telling Netflix that we need to go ahead and do some more and they keep encouraging me to make more Rebel Moon movies. But I feel like this Army universe is really very rich and fun, and zombies never go out of style so it just feels like a no-brainer to me,” he told Looper.

Snyder’s Rebel Moon Didn’t Exactly Work Wonders

Coming as a disappointment to many, the first two Rebel Moon installments dramatically failed in terms of their reception. Feeling like Zack Snyder severely underdelivered on his promises, both critics and viewers went hard on these movies, with critics being even more ruthless than fans, which is rather rare in such cases.

Rebel Moon - Chapter One: A Child of Fire received 21 and 57% Critic and Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes, respectively. The second installment, The Scargiver, did even worse, with 15 and 48% from critics and viewers. Only on IMDb, the two parts can boast 5.6 and 5.2/10 scores, which are still very much below optimal.

For some reason, though, Netflix is really keen on keeping this movie series going. Even Snyder already thinks that continuing the Army of the Dead franchise would’ve made more sense… But alas.
