Leave it to IT’s Bill Skarsgård and The Idol’s Lily-Rose Depp to give a new life to the classic gothic horror movie. Nosferatu is back a century later, and he craves blood.

Summary:

  • Director Robert Eggers is working on a Nosferatu remake; the movie is scheduled for a 2024 release.
  • IT’s Bill Skarsgård and The Idol ’s Lily-Rose Depp took on the lead roles in the upcoming movie.
  • Director Eggers is impressed with his actors’ work and promises to make a true Gothic horror film.

All vampire stories draw inspiration from the same sources. Bram Stoker’s Dracula is the first that comes to mind, and then — most likely — you think about F. W. Murnau’s Nosferatu. Two very different vampires who chill your bones in quite opposite ways, the Counts have always been the staples of the Gothic horror genre.

The story of Dracula has seen more revisions than Nosferatu; so far, the latter only has the original 1922 version by Murnau and Herzog’s 1979 remake. That’s about to change, though, as 2024 is set to bring us a new version of the Count. As terrifying as ever, Nosferatu will return to unlife with Bill Skarsgård’s unmatched brilliance.

What Do We Know About the Nosferatu Reboot?

Over 100 years after the original Nosferatu’s release, the remake is planned for 2024, though no exact date is known yet. The new movie will be overlooked by Robert Eggers, the director best known for The Lighthouse with Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe and The VVitch with Anya Taylor-Joy and Ralph Ineson.

The lead actors are Bill Skarsgård, the Pennywise star from IT, and Lily-Rose Depp from The Idol. Willem Dafoe, Ralph Ineson, Nicholas Hoult, and others will join the cast as supporting characters from the original Nosferatu story. The cast looks strong and, if it’s anything to judge by, the 2024 remake appears promising from that alone.

What Do Nosferatu 2024 Stars Say About It?

The Nosferatu cast and crew feel rather comfortable with the movie they’re making. All of them appear convinced of the remake’s success throughout their interviews, and these folks have quite a track record of films to go by.

“It’s a Gothic horror movie, and I do think that there hasn’t been an old-school Gothic movie that’s actually scary in a while. And I think that the majority of audiences will find this one to be the case,” director Eggers told Empire.

Believing in one’s directing abilities is one thing, but genuinely admiring their actors’ work is a whole other ordeal. In the case of Robert Eggers and Nosferatu 2024, it’s clear that he’s mesmerized by his proteges’ acting. In the same interview, the director sang praise to his lead actors, Depp and Skarsgård.

“Lily-Rose is absolutely phenomenal. I’ll say that Bill has so transformed, I’m fearful that he might not get the credit that he deserves because he’s just…he’s not there,” Eggers shared.

What Do We Expect from Eggers’s Nosferatu?

Robert Eggers has already proven his immaculate talent for creating unnerving scenes, bone-chilling suspense, and indescribable visual horrors. Judging by the director’s previous works, it’s safe to say that Nosferatu will have a distinct visual style. Fans of all things grim and dark, rejoice: the movie will surely not disappoint.

The lead stars strengthen our general expectations. There’s no denying that Bill Skarsgård is phenomenal at taking on anthropomorphic, Uncanny Valley-inducing characters and making them truly horrifying; and Lily-Rose Depp has, too, proven her acting chops more than enough (though, in more humane roles than her co-star).

We expect Nosferatu to treat its source material and predecessor movie with the respect they deserve, especially since director Eggers has already promised as much. By all accounts, the movie looks like the best Halloween treat any horror connoisseur could have asked for in 2024. Let’s just hope it lives up to our expectations.
