Seems like the reboot is indeed happening after several years of delay.

Summary:

  • Alfred Hitchcock and his highly acclaimed films have been an eternal source of inspiration for filmmakers for decades, but now one of the modern directors is taking up the production of the reboot for Hitchcock’s most famous thriller.
  • The original plot revolves around two strangers who come up with a sinister plan of killing each other’s beloved ones.
  • Though initially the remake was delayed for several years, now it seems to be a number one priority for its director and Netflix.

An internationally proclaimed master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock brought his innovative films as an endless source of inspiration for even modern filmmakers.

And while some directors may have just borrowed some plot ideas from Hitchcock’s immortal masterpieces, the others go for bigger plans of the entire reboots of the famous classic — with David Fincher being one of the latter ones.

According to World of Reel’s Jordan Ruimy, Fincher is back on track with his planned Netflix’s remake of Strangers on a Train, one of Alfred Hitchcock’s best crime thrillers. The project reportedly has been in talks for almost a decade — Fincher’s idea supported by Netflix was approved back in 2015, but then put on a halt two years later.

Now that the news is confirming that the upcoming film will be in the works soon, it also suggests that the remake has turned into Fincher’s number one priority as the director put off all his current projects.

The original plot follows two men who, after accidentally meeting each other on a train and lamenting about their life struggles, come up with quite an eerie plan — one will take the responsibility of killing someone who the other wants to be gone and vice versa.

For Bruno Antony it’s his father, tense relationships with whom have already reached his patience limits; for tennis player Guy Haines the preferably dead person turns out to be his wife Miriam who doesn’t let him get a divorce and live happily with a new love.

There seems to be only one problem in the plan that would make both of the characters happy — Bruno takes it quite seriously while Guy doesn’t let it go further than just a simple joke. Though Bruno takes no denial and sticks to his part of the plan which will later on bring the police to Guy’s door.

It was previously rumored that Fincher’s upcoming reboot will star Ben Affleck, but now it seems like the actor would rather appear behind the camera if he makes it to the film’s production at all.

The rest of the cast is still shrouded in mystery, but, given the director’s energetic steps towards the exciting project, we may know much more details in the very near future.
