We all waiting patiently for HBO Max to make that big announcement, and the #renewourflagmeansdeath hashtag is still going strong.

The final episode of 'Our Flag Means Death' season one aired on HBO Max on March 24. However, as of today, it is still unknown whether the streaming platform will renew the series for a second season. As fans eagerly anticipate the verdict that HBO Max will give to David Jenkins' brainchild, here's what we know about potential 'Our Flag Means Death' renewal so far – and why pretty much everyone is sure that the show will, in fact, get a second season.

Critics Approval

Critics have welcomed the series more than warmly: the freshness rate of 'Our Flag Means Death' on Rotten Tomatoes is currently 91% (based on 32 critics' reviews). Critics' reviews are full of compliments, praising the celebration of queer joy and the whole "comfort watch" vibe of the series. Tara Bennett of IGN Movies reviews 'Our Flag Means Death' as "one of the most unique comedies bobbing out in the ocean of scripted television right now," while Lauren Coates of Culturess calls it "one of the best original comedies in years.

Solid Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb

Viewers love 'Our Flag Means Death' even more. Today the average user rating on Rotten Tomatoes is 95% and on IMDb – 8.0 out of 10. If you look at the individual episodes pages on IMDb, you can see how the audience rating has been steadily growing from episode to episode. While pilot episode was rated by viewers at 7.3, the final episode of the first season 'Wherever You Go, There You Are' received a rating of 8.9. That's quite a promising start, especially for a show that is marketed as a comedy.

The Showrunner Himself Hinted at Possible Renewal

Meanwhile 'Our Flag Means Death' fandom on social media is buzzing with potential renewal discussions. Fans of the series noticed the dialogue of the showrunner of the project David Jenkins with one of the followers on Twitter.

And David was quick to answer:

And then a very intriguing clarification came:

"...season one I mean..."

Now fans of the series are wondering what David's somewhat cryptic words meant. Perhaps he knows that season two has already been greenlit, and now we just have to wait for the official confirmation from HBO Max.

In addition, David Jenkins celebrated the success of the show alongside its fans. For four weeks in a row, 'Our Flag Means Death' has remained the most in-demand new series. Quite an achievement for any breakout series, and this alone might be enough for HBO execs to renew it.

Cast and Creators Are In For It

In a recent interview with the LA Times David Jenkins and Taika Waititi were asked about the future of 'Our Flag Means Death'. They honestly admitted that they don't have the slightest idea of a second season yet. Nevertheless, both are very interested in a possibility of the project getting a season 2.

"I don't know anything. I just think that they should because it makes sense. Also, I need to know what happens next," said Waititi.

Fun fact: 'Our Flag Means Death' creators seem to actually know about the waves their little pirate show made on social media with petitions, fan predictions, a ton of fan arts and so on – and are very grateful for it.

"Just to go on [social media] and see it trend for like two weeks feels unreal. It's so gratifying, even not knowing if you're renewed, to see that people liked it that much", added David.
