Who dared to?

  • Period dramas are the new black of the TV industry, and there’s nothing you can do to change that. Or are they?
  • For quite some time, HBO’s limited series called The Regime was dominating HBO MAx ’s Global Chart. The period drama featuring Kate Winslet as the Chancellor of an unnamed Central European nation.
  • A lot of drama was unfolding behind the palace walls, and maybe that was the main reason why the viewers were so attracted to the series. And of course the star-studded cast, including the main star Winslet and Hugh Grant.

But the series was dethroned by another HBO show, Tokyo Vice. Although the show’s first season premiered in 2022, it seems that not so many people knew about the show at the time of release.

Season 2 of the series premiered though this February, and it seems that only now the viewers are realizing that the show is worth watching. Tokyo Vice is an American crime drama, featuring Ansel Elgort and Ken Watanabe.

The series is now on the number one spot among the most popular HBO Max series, and we actually understand where all the hype comes from.

The series centers on an American journalist named Jake Adelstein, who moved to Tokyo in 1999 and now faces a serious problem: he has to pass a written exam in Japanese to become the part of a major Japanese newspaper staff.

He succeeds at everything, but building a career from scratch is not easy, so he had to start at the bottom. With the help of his mentor Sekiguchi, he begins to uncover the darkest secrets of the city's most dangerous criminals.

The fans love the show and they are really happy that it is finally getting some recognition, because they feel that Max did nothing to promote the show at that time.

“The actual core story is fantastic and I'm on the edge of my seat every episode. This season's return has been a great one. I would be pretty disappointed if it was canceled. This one needs a proper ending. Incredible acting, incredible story, somewhat actiony worldly drama,” Redditor flamingotounge said.

Don’t miss the chance to check out the first season of Tokyo Vice before tuning in to the newest season on Max.
