It seems that hope never dies in this fandom.

With the shooting for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 at full swing, new details about the upcoming second chapter of Amazons' Middle-earth prequel are already arriving. And it looks like the showrunners are learning from their mistakes — at least that's what fans would like to believe in.

Head of Global TV for Amazon Studios Vernon Sanders has shared some of the plans for the upcoming season in an interview with Deadline. Among them are bigger battles and even "some iconic moments from the appendices and the books."

Fans should also brace themselves for some surprises.

"We've already announced that there'll be some characters from the lore. I don't think we've announced all of them, so there are surprises to come. I think the fans will be really delighted," Sanders said.

Does it mean that The Rings of Power will stick more to John R.R. Tolkien's canon? Not necessarily, especially given the fact that there will always be some fans ready to blast Amazon's series for failure to live up to the Tolkien standard. However, people are "cautiously optimistic"... even though not everyone is ready to share the optimism.

"They need a reboot... Season 1 was unrecoverable... It was so bad that one of the likable characters actor left the show," Twitter user Gremmin said, referring to the exit of Joseph Mawle who portrayed Adar.

Other people are already joking that The Rings of Power showrunners will resort to make "their own version of iconic moments" and not actually stick to the books.

The premiere date for The Rings of Power 2 is yet to be scheduled, but Sanders did already confirm that the show might be soon greenlit for the third season. He did not, however, clarify when that is going to happen.
