Stephen King’s Favorite Horror Show with ‘Stephen King Vibe’ is Netflix’s Hidden Gem
The series was cancelled years ago, but still holds an impressive critical score.
Stocked with all kinds of shows and movies, Netflix has yet a lot to unveil for horror genre fans, and Stephen King has been serving his duty as a great helper for years now. The author might be a creator of the most horrendous stories himself, yet he never shies away from praising his colleagues’ work and giving some untimely forgotten projects a big boost in the viewership.
Though not all of King’s recommendations are stored on Netflix, one of the most chilling shows he’s ever talked about is still there — and it secures a wow score years after its release.
Marianne Is a French Horror Show That Even Stephen King Got Scared By
The series was released back in 2019 and cancelled after only one season, yet it got stuck in its viewers’ heads for quite a long time, and Stephen King is most likely one of those too. Some time after Marianne’s drop on Netflix, King took to his social media raving about the French horror series and even admitting that the story did remind him of his own terrifying narratives.
Giving his followers yet another TV recommendation, King said that “If you're one of those sickos--like me--who enjoys being scared, MARIANNE (Netflix) will do the job. There are glints of humor that give it a STRANGER THINGS vibe. It also has (I say it with all due modesty) a Stephen King vibe”.
Marianne Is a Chilling Nightmare With a Perfect RT Score
The show takes its viewers to the French countryside, home to famous horror writer Emma where she returns after being plagued by an evil spirit that haunts her in the nightmares years after she wrote a book about it.
However, coming back to her roots only aggravates the situation when Emma realises that the creature she invented back then might be the one that tortures people in her hometown. The whole drama reaches its climax when Emma’s childhood friend reveals that she considers herself the witch from Emma’s books and then hangs herself.
A gut-wrenching horror mixed with high-level drama, Marianne was praised by both critics and viewers, landing impressive scores of 100% and 85% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes. The show never got to its second season, but still might become a good (and terrifying) watch for those waiting for Stranger Things’ final instalment.
