And frankly, the fans have every reason to.

The writer of Sugar from Apple TV+, Mark Protosevich, is known to viewers as the screenwriter of Thor, I Am Legend and The Cell, starring Jennifer Lopez. Most of the episodes were directed by Fernando Meirelles, the Brazilian director whose City of God earned him an Academy Award nomination for directing.

Colin Farrell, one of the most prominent actors right now, not only stars but also executive produces. What could go wrong?

Sugar Episode 6 Big Twist Turned the Show on Its Head

Until the finale of the sixth episode, Sugar looks like a quality detective story, filled with quotes from old movies, which then takes a sharp turn and takes on a new and completely unnecessary dimension.

A person who speaks Japanese, Arabic, Spanish, and many other languages, has the reflexes of a superhero, loves people, and sincerely wishes the best for everyone – isn't he in a coma or maybe the whole plot is just his fever dream? This question the viewers asked themselves during almost the whole series. Until the sixth episode.

One of the classic and best twists in movie history is the revelation of Bruce Willis' character in The Sixth Sense. We know that the boy sees dead people, but we don't know that Willis' character is one of them. On the set of Star Wars, no one knew that Darth Vader was Luke's father. At the end of Donnie Darko, Jake Gyllenhaal 's character rewinds time and sacrifices himself to save his family and girlfriend.

All of these twists not only provided a wow effect, but also gave the plot a new direction, allowing us to look at the characters' actions and motivations in a new way to better understand them.

Sugar Plot Twist Seems Completely Unnecessary So Far

So what is the twist in Sugar? Well, Colin Farrell's character is an alien. He is from somewhere in outer space and originally had blue skin. Although viewers suspected that the detective might turn out to be an alien, many were still disappointed by such a twist, which so far seems to have no consistent connection to the rest of the plot.

“Made me start hate watching the show because the twist became bigger than the core mystery. And now that I know, do I want to continue watching? Not really. It felt like a manipulative tease.” Reddit user shineymike91 wrote.

What does the twist do in Sugar? Absolutely nothing. It doesn't turn the plot on its head or force the viewer to re-watch previous episodes for clues. At least there are two episodes left to connect the alien twist with the main mystery, and maybe it won't be so disappointing.

Sugar Episodes Release Date
