There is nothing better for fans of The OA to do right now than to watch this movie.

When the first season of The OA dropped on Netflix without any warning eight years ago, there was little to prepare viewers. The duo who created, wrote, and directed the series, Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, had made a few interesting films, but were almost unknown outside of Sundance.

Their style of filmmaking in The OA hypnotized, puzzled, and unsettled the viewers. It was a mixture of a dozen genres, switching from sci-fi thriller to teen drama.

However, the fact that the project did not fit into any framework apparently forced Netflix to cancel The OA after two seasons, leaving fans without one of the most innovative sci-fi projects of the 21st century. Many viewers still hope to see the story continue in some form – a new season, a game or a comic book.

Recently, the attention of The OA fans was drawn to a new horror movie that will definitely appeal to those who have followed the story of Prairie – I Saw the TV Glow.

“As a huge OA fan, I can't imagine seeing a movie I'll enjoy more this year,” Reddit user st00bahank wrote.

What is I Saw the TV Glow About?

The new horror movie has a very unusual premise: two teenagers, Owen and Maddy, are united by their love for the series The Pink Opaque, which they became fans of a few years ago. After the streaming service suddenly refuses to renew the show for a new season, strange things start happening to Owen and Maddy, forcing them to go on a road trip.

Throughout the trip, they will constantly doubt the reality of what is happening. What began as innocent fanaticism for a popular TV show will develop into something that can completely change their lives and put them in danger of becoming victims of terrible events.

I Saw the TV Glow is an Unusual Horror Story with Touching Elements

This is the second film from Jane Schoenbrun, director of the low-budget horror film We're All Going to the World's Fair, about the transformation of a teenage girl who participates in a strange online game.

For the second film, Schoenbrun teamed up with many talents at once: the new project was produced by A24 and Emma Stone, the music was written by Alex G, and Phoebe Bridgers played a cameo role.

Despite the expanded opportunities, Schoenbrun remained true to the lo-fi aesthetic and style established in the first film. I Saw the TV Glow has been hailed as a spiritual successor to the third season of Twin Peaks, with eerie visuals that capture the fear that the flickering TV screen instilled in the 1990s.

However, the movie is praised not only for its horror elements, but also for its touching story of teenage loneliness and attempts to escape boring reality.

Where to Watch I Saw the TV Glow?

I Saw the TV Glow is now in theaters and will soon be available on Max.
