The latest CW series, The Winchesters, is an immense relief to those still recovering from Supernatural's end after 15 years.

Even better, fans were delighted that the spin-off series kept one of the original shows' long-standing traditions, featuring a cameo from a fan-favorite character.

In the finale episode of The Winchesters ' first season, to the delight of Supernatural fans, the episode features a guest appearance of Bobby Singer, portrayed once again by the phenomenal Jim Beaver. Although the character only makes a couple of cameo appearances throughout, his inclusion was a pleasant surprise for fans not expecting to see much more of the original cast.

Talking to TVLine, Robbie Thompson, the executive producer for the show and for Supernatural previously, explained the decision to include the cameo character.

"All the writers probably had their own separate list of legacy characters that we wanted to bring back… The first name I wrote down was Bobby Singer".

However, Thompson revealed it was more than just a close connection to the character that he wanted to bring him back.

"Jim Beaver has been in every single season of Supernatural, whether or not Bobby was alive or dead. So I was like: 'Well, he absolutely has to be in Winchesters'. But I love that character, and Jim Beaver as an actor is just someone that I absolutely adore, and I had a blast".

Clearly, breaking tradition was not an option for the showrunners, and Booby's return as a cameo became a must-have for the new series.

Even Jared Padalecki Hated This Questionable Supernatural Storyline

It was only fitting that The Winchesters should feature some cameos, rewarding loyal SPN followers with a trip down memory lane. Bobby was not the only character to make a cameo appearance either. He joins forces briefly with Dean (Jensen Ackles ), who plays a more recurring part throughout the season, and Jack (Alexander Calvert) during the episode.

Throughout Supernatural, Bobby was a critical figure in the Winchesters' lives, often providing a sense of family. As Thompson puts it, "[At the end] he was also the last person that Dean had seen in Heaven before he went on the drive, so it made sense that he would be the person to potentially follow and help out".

As of now, a second season of The Winchesters is yet to be renewed or cancelled by the CW. The return of Jensen Ackles, Jim Beaver, or any other of Supernatural's previous characters or cast is also yet to be confirmed for the show. Until then, fans will have to get their Winchester fix from Supernatural to see more of their favorite TV hunters.
