This Antonio Banderas’ Action Thriller Holds an Anti-Record 0% RT Score
Viewers may have forgotten about this unlucky flick, but Rotten Tomatoes never does.
Even Hollywood’s A-listers can have a couple of bad movies under their belt, but one flick with very famous leads holds an anti-record that hasn't been beaten by anyone in decades and probably won’t even be beaten by other failures in the future.
In fact, the movie in question wasn’t only crashed by critics, but also completely failed in the box office too, becoming one of the biggest flops in, well, the movie history of this century. What’s even sadder, it stars the world’s heartthrob Antonio Banderas and Quentin Tarantino ’s martial arts star Lucy Liu.
Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever Is a Sci-fi Movie That No One Liked (Quite Literally)
Directed by Thai filmmaker Wych Kaosayananda, Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever remains labeled as one of the worst movies ever made since it was initially released back in 2002.
The movie follows Banderas’ Jeremiah Ecks, a former FBI manhunter whose life loses all its meaning after his wife’s death; however, he’s soon called back into action when blackmailing forces him to embark on a mission to track down the ex-DIA operative with the code name Sever.
The latter represents a major danger since she was the one to kidnap the young son of the head of a secret committee of international security agencies.
Though the plot does sound like something that could’ve potentially built a solid movie, Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever is forever doomed to be looked down upon as it keeps the record of the worst-reviewed movie in Rotten Tomatoes’ history with a score of 0% based on 118 reviews.
The viewers were a bit more condescending though, granting the movie a not so encouraging rating of 20%, yet it was still a better option than the critics’ verdict.
Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever Was Also a Major Box Office Failure
Considering that the movie still secured Hollywood’s big names for the leading roles, it was expected that a solid amount of money would be poured into production. However, the numbers didn’t really match with what the viewers had to experience on the screen.
Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever cost a whopping $70 million, yet the movie didn't have a single proof of wise investment of this pile of money. The film eventually flopped in the box office, earning around $20 million worldwide against its more than triple budget.
