If you thought Vhagar could not be more menacing... wait until you see the early concept art.

Dragon design is something that all House of the Dragon fans will agree that the show has nailed, delivering several dragons with their own unique looks and even personalities. The first season of House of the Dragon introduced us to Westeros' largest and most fearsome dragon at the time, Vhagar, who combined menacing looks with touches of the centuries she had lived through.

Vhagar proved to be an utterly intimidating dragon, especially when the show provided the footage to show us just how massive she is compared to other winged beasts. However, it turns out that she could look even scarier.

House of the Dragon creature designer Constantine Sekeris shared some images of early Vhagar designs on his Instagram. And yes, it seems that the VFX artists seriously considered giving Vhagar some horns and making her even bigger than she is. With her teeth protruding from her massive jaw, she looks like something out of a nightmare.

Many fans feel that the show should have stuck with this particular design. In the early concept, Vhagar looks more like Godzilla than an actual dragon, and many fans wondered how the House of the Dragon VFX artist would make Balerion (who was even bigger) look.

The horns, however, are the biggest loss, according to fans.

"I kind of wished they kept her horns, like a natural crown make her look more regal as the Matriarch of all Dragons," Twitter user DarrenAlevi said.

Others noted that they would actually fear Vhagar if she looked like her early design on screen. However, the designers decided to go with a less menacing design that had no horns and a less creepy maw.

Well, at least we can sleep (relatively) well after watching the episodes. With the second season of House of the Dragon set to begin filming in March, we might want to get ready for some new majestic (or creepy) dragon designs.
