Netflix keeps adding 1990’s vibes to its modern collections.

Summary:

  • Adam Sandler ’s famous 1996 comedy Happy Gilmore is coming to Netflix on April 1.
  • The plot, loosely based on Sadler’s childhood friend’s story, follows an unlucky ice hockey enthusiast who finds his true talent in golf playing.
  • Simultaneously with the film’s release some rumors about Happy Gilmore’s sequel production start circulating.

Old times’ nostalgia has never been so present before — and even younger fans are here for it. Among newcomers that Netflix is bringing to its platform this April is Happy Gilmore, a comedy about a luckless’s ice hockey enthusiast starring Adam Sandler and Julie Bowen.

The plot, as Sandler admitted himself, is partially based on the story of his childhood friend who played ice hockey, but sometimes was Sandler for playing some golf. The main character, Happy Gilmore, is more than passionate about ice hockey that, as luck would have it, doesn’t come easy to him at all.

By chance he finds himself with a golf-club in his hand which manages to hit a ball at the biggest distance three times in a row. Now that Gilmore knows that he’s gifted at least in something like this, he’ll do his best to make a fortune and save his grandma’s house.

The fan-favorite old comedy doesn’t lay claims to be a cinematic masterpiece (with just 62% on Rotten Tomatoes), but it’s neither something that Adam Sandler has been trying to achieve as the actor himself said he wasn’t making his films to please the critics.

While the original movie is set to land on Netflix on April 1, the streaming service is also stirring up some talks about a potential Happy Gilmore sequel for which Adam Sandler would obviously be ready no matter when it’s happening — even 30 years after.

Though the rumors happen to take place, the rest of the cast may not be back in the sequel as so far Sandler seems to be the only one in charge of the new film.

And while almost nothing is known yet about the upcoming Happy Gilmore 2, the 1990’s fellow kids can brighten up their expectation by enjoying the original movie on Netflix.
