If you don't think about the '80s movie industry when you hear the word 'opulence' then you don't know what 'opulence' is.

Okay, maybe 'exaggeration' would be better. Or 'hyperbolization'. 'Being way too over-the-top' would work, too. These movies prove that — and do that with a hearty dose of laughter.

This decade is filled with movies that embodied the word 'entertainment', fully embraced it, and made it their essence, and comedies are great proof of that, along with action movies. The '80s brought us some comedy stars who are still relevant today and who have set the standards for funny movies for the next generations of filmmakers.

In these movies, it seems like everyone is allowed to go ham: the dialogues are on fire, the situations are insane, and if there is some adventure, it's mind-blowingly stupid but it works. And don't get us started on how these comedies blended perfectly with other genres, adding a bit of horror, a bit of coming-of-age, and a heap of action and making it even more hilarious by mixing it all.

Some feel way too crude, sure, but this boldness is what made them classics back then and makes them so charming now.

Here's the list of all the movies mentioned here: Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989), ¡Three Amigos! (1986), National Lampoon's Vacation (1983), Beetlejuice ( 1988), The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988), Police Academy (1984), The 'Burbs (1989), The Gods Must Be Crazy (1980), Airplane! (1980), History of the World, Part 1 (1981).
