The R-rating is one of the most confusing things going on in Hollywood right now. Of course, it has to exist because some movies simply shouldn't be seen by minors, but the MPAA gives this strict rating so liberally that a lot of pretty harmless movies get it, completely losing any chance of making any money at the box office.
Long gone are the days when only the most gruesome, depressing or erotic movies were given an R rating, as even a small detail can force the MPAA to give it to any movie imaginable.
