3 Films Everyone Should See At Least Once, According to Nolan
Those, apparently, are the films you can't afford to miss out on.
Christopher Nolan is considered one of the most influential directors of our time. His films have repeatedly blown the minds of viewers and become the best: although Nolan himself still hasn't got an Oscar as the director, the list of awards his projects earned over the years is impressive, to say the least. Being the director of several cult films such as 'Memento', 'The Prestige', 'Inception' and 'The Dark Knight', Nolan himself says that he likes movies that make people think. He is not against "popcorn" movies as such, but says that a film should make a person think about their future.
Here are the films that Nolan himself loves and recommends every fan of cinema to watch at least once in their life.
'2001: A Space Odyssey' (1968)
Kubrick's film is about the crew of a spaceship that sets out on a special mission to find out why aliens are watching Earth. There will be many obstacles on their way, but they will have to answer questions about who they are and what their role in the universe is.
This film is rightly considered a cult classic, somewhat of a benchmark for any science fiction movie. The influence of the movie can also be seen in Nolan's own 'Interstellar'. The director himself says that he watched this movie in his childhood, and even then it had a great influence on him already.
'The Hateful Eight' (2015)
This is the only Tarantino film that stands out to Nolan. 'The Hateful Eight' is set in post-Civil War America. In a random dingy pub not the most pleasant people gather together accidentally: each of these people seeking shelter from a sudden storm, and each hides secrets which are sure to come out during the long night.
Nolan often calls 'The Hateful Eight' one of the best films of our time, saying that every element of the movie contributes to a full immersion in that era.
'Baby Driver' (2017)
Another of Nolan's favorite modern directors is Edgar Wright. According to Nolan, Wright's terrific at shooting action scenes and chase scenes. You can see it all in 'Baby Driver', a story about a young but very talented criminal played by Ansel Elgort. One day he falls in love and decides to leave his crew, but in order to do so he needs to complete one last mission. Nolan gushed about 'Baby Driver' while talking to Wright for the Director's Guild of America podcast 'The Director's Cut'.
