It's no secret that Game of Thrones is one of the most brutal TV series of all time.

The amount of sheer unhinged cruelty on the screen is truly remarkable, but sometimes, the events unfold in such a sickening fashion it makes viewers far more than just uncomfortable.

In a recent discussion on Reddit, GoT fans shared which scenes in their experience went so far that it almost made them quit watching the show altogether.

While there are a lot of those, we picked the five most horrible, sickening, and unhinged moments to make you truly regret remembering Game of Thrones exists today.

The Red Wedding

The Red Wedding left an unhealable scar on both House Stark and the minds of the viewers. It's not like anyone considered Frey trustworthy, but no one expected such a brutal and sudden slaughter.

The most sickening part was, of course, how they murdered Talisa: repeatedly stabbing a pregnant woman in her womb is a truly Lovecraftian level of indescribable horror.

Shireen's death

What a great day it is to remember how a noble lord ordered his little daughter executed in the most painful way possible, isn't it?

Shireen has suffered a lot during her short life and remained a kind and sweet little girl despite all of it. She loved her father and was happy near him, she was one of the fans' favorites…

And this made watching her get ready to burn to death by her father's orders absolutely unbearable.

Theon's torture

This was not one scene. This was not two scenes. This was a painfully, inexcusably long sequence of scenes throughout multiple episodes.

We were watching Theon get annihilated, body and soul, for weeks, until even his identity was no more.

If there was a prize for unnecessary on-screen violence in GoT, Theon's torture would've won: even the viewers who hate him admit they couldn't keep watching at some point.

Sansa's rape

We all remember Sansa as a sweet little girl from the beginning of the show. We were there with her when she had to deal with Joffrey's sadism.

We were there through her journey and when she finally reached her home… To become a victim to a far worse psychopath than her previous tormentor.

We were there when she was repeatedly beaten and raped by Ramsi, in her own home, being watched by her two younger brothers…

And we lost that additional bit of hope we never knew still existed.

Oberin's death

Oberin Martell made his prompt entrance into the show — and it was also his entrance to the viewers' hearts.

This charming and self-confident man quickly took his place as one of the most loved characters, and no one had any doubt his skills would allow him to easily win the duel with the Mountain.

And they did. Kind of. Until he decided to clown around — and watching him get brutally killed in such a painful way made us all mirror his wife's horrified expression in real life.
