Attack on Titan is not everything.

The biggest part of the most popular anime in recent years is dark fantasy. But sometimes we only focus on whatever is promoted widely, never paying attention to all the hidden gems that exist in the dark...

So this time we decided to tell you about these five underrated dark fantasy anime that definitely need your attention.

1. Vampire Hunter D (2000)

This anime is originally an old manga, but in 2000 the full movie came out. At the center of the story is the main character named D. He is a dhampir (a creature that is half-vampire and half-human), and his life mission is to save people from vampiric attacks.

There’s also the second part of the movie called Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, which you also absolutely need to check out if you like the first one. This is just classic!

2. Drifters (2016)

After the great Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, the legendary samurai Toyohisa Shimazu, just as he was about to defeat the enemy Naomasa Ii, was suddenly pulled through a strange door into a corridor that teleported him to a fantasy world.

And it's there that he meets the so-called Drifters, fighters from different places who have lived on Earth in many different time periods. But not all of them are friendly, and most of the drifters he meets are actually dangerous, so he has to find a way to stay alive.

3. Wolf's Rain (2003)

In this post-apocalyptic world of the future, all humans live in domed cities, and everything around is just a wasteland. And in this dystopian new world, it is assumed that there are no wolves because they have been extinct for more than 200 years.

But apparently this is not true, as there are wolves among the humans, but they live in disguise because there is no other way for them to survive in the world they are trapped in.

However, four young wolves have decided to find a perfect place for them to live, and are determined to follow the scent of lunar flowers to find… paradise.

4. Dorohedoro (2020)

Well, this dark anime is a perfect mix of creepy humor and gripping scenes, and we have a strong feeling that you will like it (especially if you are a huge fan of, say, Chainsaw Man…).

The story focuses on the citizens of Hole, who are considered expendable material for magical experiments. This, of course, makes life a living hell for anyone who isn't a magic user...

One day, Kaiman's life changes 100% after he is transformed into a lizard-headed beast. Now his life's mission is to find out who did this to him and to get his real appearance back.

5. Hell Girl (2005)

This anime will keep you alive at night after you watch it, but we still can’t recommend it to you enough. There is a special website called Hell Correspondence, and anyone who wants revenge can enter the name of a person they hate or want gone at midnight, and a special Hell Girl will be at their service.

We know almost nothing about her, but her work is always 100% perfect. And that's what's so terrifying…
