In 2074, criminal gangs are finding that disposing of bodies is problematic. The solution? Send their enemies back in time and have them killed in 2044 by loopers (hitmen).

Any loopers who survive to 2074 are sent back in time and killed by their younger self. But when one older looper escapes his junior assassin, he asks Joe (Gordon-Levitt) to provide him a hideout. And he knows a secret that might make the loopers rethink everything.
