In 2022, Apple TV gave us some big releases, but they overshadowed some other worthy projects.

2022 was the year that Apple TV+ 's billions of dollars spent on content began to bear fruit, with several successful releases premiering on the small screen – we got the sci-fi Severance, the spy thriller Slow Horses, and the crime show Black Bird.

Unsurprisingly, Sharon Horgan's Irish comedy thriller Bad Sisters, which has a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, did not have its moment of glory as it was overshadowed by bigger releases. And it’s time to get acquainted with this Apple TV hidden masterpiece.

What is Bad Sisters About?

The dark comedy tells the story of five sisters from picturesque Ireland who banded together after the death of their parents, always supporting each other. The union falls apart when one of them marries and becomes a sad and helpless housewife whose husband forbids her to be herself.

The action takes place in two time periods: in the present – after the man's funeral, insurance inspectors begin to investigate the mysterious death; and in the past – when the sisters just decided to get rid of the evil husband. The main intrigue of the series is whether or not the sisters are to blame for what has happened, and how did the manipulator and abuser die in the first place?

Bad Sisters Gives Off Big Little Lies Vibes, But With a Dash of Dark Humor

Bad Sisters is a remake of the Belgian TV series Clan from twelve years ago, but this is the case where you should not be afraid of the word "remake" - Bad Sisters is no worse, if not better, than the original show.

The result is a project in the vein of Big Little Lies – a story about a sisterhood against the worst of men, but with a biting, dark humor.

Bad Sisters Is a Smart Mix of Genres

The show keeps viewers guessing until the very end: have the sisters really committed a crime? But Bad Sisters cannot be described as just a crime drama: it is a family drama, a witty comedy, and an exciting thriller.

So, be prepared for picturesque Irish landscapes and unpredictable plot twists – there will be many of both.

The Apple TV project is a rare example of a writer's talent for using comedy to address a serious issue such as domestic violence, and it is the combination of the seemingly incongruous that makes this show so extraordinary.
