This Axed Masterpiece Nailed Love & Heartbreak Like No Other Show – And It Deserved Better

If love were a TV series, it would be High Fidelity – Hulu's most overlooked gem, canceled after one season. Here's why it's a must-see for all fans of real, raw, and sincere love stories.
If love were a playlist, which song would it start with and which track would it end with? If you've ever asked yourself this question, then High Fidelity is definitely a must-watch for you.
One of Hulu's most criminally underrated projects, High Fidelity features the magnetic Zoë Kravitz breaking the fourth wall to a gorgeous soundtrack with a captivating touch of sadness that you won't find in any other project.
What Is 'High Fidelity' About?
Rob (Zoë Kravitz) owns a small vinyl record store in New York City and is well-versed in music and pop culture. However, she suffers from repeated failures in her personal life.
After another painful breakup, she decides to reevaluate her relationships with her last five partners to draw conclusions and finally get her life on track.
'High Fidelity' Is Yet Another Adaptation of Nick Hornby's Novel
High Fidelity is based on the novel by Nick Hornby, and it was Zoë Kravitz herself who came up with the idea for the adaptation. The novel was previously adapted into a movie in 2000, starring John Cusack, Jack Black, and Lisa Bonet, Zoë's mother.
In the 2020 version, Rob adds melodrama to the story but doesn't reduce the cynicism at all. The woman ignores her friends' and family's experiences; makes many mistakes; hurts those who are kind to her; and makes others feel her emotional crisis – she acts like real-life people.
'High Fidelity' Is a Raw, Sincere And Heartbreaking Love Story
High Fidelity is a story about unfulfilled hopes and failed love, as well as the reasons why we continue to believe in the big and the great. The plot is simple – High Fidelity is unlikely to surprise anyone or contribute anything new to romantic cinema.
However, this show is a case in which the way the topic is revealed is important, and it will definitely touch your heart for years to come. And it will also inspire you to save the entire playlist from the series on Spotify (which is what I personally did).
The magnetic backdrop of New York, with its neon mini-bars, music studios, and, of course, Rob's vinyl store, make the story feel painfully real.
