The great-grandson of the author revives a true classic of the detective genre.

Why do we continue to search for murderers with the characters of Agatha Christie? The answer may have been known by the author herself, who became famous for her gift of inventing murders and brilliantly solving them on the pages of books.

Little did Christie know that she was creating an eternal source of inspiration for directors and producers who made dozens of movies and TV series based on her works.

James Pritchard Revealed Miss Marple Is Coming Back to the TV Screens

In a recent interview, Agatha Christie's great-grandson James Pritchard shared some news that will surely please all fans of the author – Miss Marple is coming back.

It is not yet known what stage of production the project is at, but Pritchard expressed his excitement at the fact that one of the most brilliant female detectives in history will be returning to the small screen:

“I couldn't be more excited. I've been trying to get something for Miss Marple off the ground for a very long time. For good reasons, Poirot has stolen her limelight since time began.”

Readers were first introduced to the inquisitive old lady in the story The Thirteen Problems, published in 1932.

Miss Marple Was Played by Many Outstanding British Actresses

The first actress to play the role of Miss Marple was Agatha Christie's close friend, British actress Margaret Rutherford. She portrayed Miss Marple in five films released between 1961 and 1965.

Then the role was played by Joan Hickson in the Miss Marple series (1984-1992) – it was she who created the most memorable image of the detective on the TV screen, which all subsequent actresses looked up to.

Geraldine McEwan, who played the detective in the Marple series in 2004, took over from Joan Hickson. McEwan was replaced by another famous British actress – Julia McKenzie, who embodied her vision of the role in the last three seasons of this series, which was released on screens until 2013.

Along With Poirot, Miss Marple Is One of Agatha Christie's Most Famous Characters

Miss Marple is based in part on Agatha Christie's own grandmother, who had great analytical skills. A combination of pessimism, suspicion, and cynicism allowed Miss Marple to solve crimes that even Scotland Yard's finest detectives could not.

This quiet and unassuming old lady, who spent her spare time knitting and gossiping, had a sharp mind and was surprisingly observant. Literally anyone could fall under the old lady's suspicion, regardless of social status, wealth, or position.
